The sheer wedding dress

We had the honour of creating a custom lace dress for Vanessa Hazel, to celebrate her wedding at one of Ireland's most beautiful historic venues Castle Leslie, in May of 2024.
At our first meeting we presented the sketch, looked at various lace samples and took Vanessa's measurement's. We decided to combine two types of lace, a fine calais lace featuring wildflowers on a polka dot base, and a thick guipure lace featuring roses and a scalloped edge to define the high neck and open back.
Vanessa wanted the sheer effect but to also have coverage, so we lined the dress with a flesh toned fabric. The contrasting shades of fabrics, highlight the intricate floral motifs.
Another detail we added was a demi-corset insert, that was boned and had a "lace-up" detail in the back, this allowed Vanessa to adjust the waist and have a structured fit.
Many of our lace designs feature a technique called "decoupage", which involves cutting out the motifs by hand and sewing them back on to the lace, in order to customise the piece. Above, you can see a close-up of the process, the thicker guipure lace motifs are strategically pinned to the dress.
We completed the design with a row of lace covered buttons, down the back of the dress and sleeves. Vanessa styled her custom bridal look, with a pair of YSL pointed courts. Her natural glam and loosely tousled waves were created by make-up artist, Natasha Ray and hair stylist, Danielle Whelan.
